The internet revolution

Aktualisiert: 4. Dez. 2020

Nowadays no one could imagine life without internet. But do you also know how this new world developed? Read on and you are going to find out!

First steps

It all started with a Military development and a fight between Russia and the USA. Arpa hat its origin in the 1960s. Russia developed Sputnik and the USA needed to keep up. There was always the battle about who was the first one on the moon.

The first message

In 1969 when Nixon was president of the USA, the Stanford research institute send the first message ever on the internet. It was supposed to be "LOG" but instead they typed "LO". At this time there were a lot of different networks but no whole one.

Further significant milestones

They wanted to connect all the different networks and make one. So the process of finding one language started. After they had created one language, people were able to send emails, join discussion groups and be active on the internet. In 2004 the most surprising thing was that so many people have a lot to say. The first videos appeared. Another key point was the development of Facebook by Mark Zuckerberg.

Today

Nowadays the internet plays an important role in our life. There are millions of different apps out there and it seems like every little topic is covered somewhere on the internet. There is even a job called content moderator who is removing offensive comments or posts.

Impact on the economy

Since the digitalisation has a huge impact on the whole world it clearly also has an impact on the economy. Everything is faster and you can communicate quickly. There are new branches which have developed themselfes due to the internet revolution. The internet also had a big impact on globalization and the trade within the whole world.

In conclusion I have to say that the internet changed our life and made it easier and faster. Nevertheless there are also negative things about it could be dangerous at some point. Have you heard about the term "splinternet"? People set up boarders and create a system which is vulnerable for government abuse. In some countries several apps or keywords are blocked and the government uses the internet as propaganda. We should use the internet responsibly and don't believe everything we see or read.

What do you think about the revolution of the internet? Let me know your thougts on this topic or leave feedback. :)
